Cattleytonia Why Not ‘Makana ke Akua’

Commonly known as Ctna. Why Not, this well-known hybrid is technically classified as Guaritonia, but is still widely grown and sold under its original name.

This is a primary hybrid of Cattleya aurantiaca × Broughtonia sanguinea. Both parents prefer bright light and tolerate a dry rest, making this a tough, adaptable plant.

Plants are compact, with slender, club-shaped pseudobulbs and two stiff, durable leaves per growth. Ideal for growers with limited space.

Flowers are produced in clusters above the foliage. Blooms are star-shaped, bright yellow, and approximately 38–50 mm across. ‘Makana ke Akua’ means “Gift from God” in Hawaiian. This hybrid is reliable and free-flowering, often blooming more than once per year, typically in spring and autumn.
