Dendrobium sanderae var. major

Dendrobium sanderae var. major is found only in the mountains of Central Luzon in the Philippines at altitudes of 1000 to 1650 meters where it grows as a medium to large sized, cool growing epiphyte on trunks of pine trees with erect, slightly thickened below the middle, longitudinally striate stem covered with leaf-sheaths that have black hairs and carrying up to 40, ovate to narrowly ovate, bilobed at apex leaves and blooms in the spring through fall on a short, apical and lateral, 2 to 4 flowered inflorescence carrying longlived flowers that arise from the nodes near the apex of the cane.

Plants should be allowed to dry out somewhat through the winter months and a reduction in fertiliser is beneficial as well. Resume regular water and fertiliser after the initiation of new growth in the spring.
