Bulbophyllum vaginatum is found in Thailand, Malaysia, Java and Borneo in mangrove, lowland, open secondary, mixed and peat swamp forests at elevations of sea-level to 600 meters as a miniature sized, hot to warm growing, unifoliate epiphyte that has a 5cm spread between each ovoid, yellow pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, oblong, coriaceous, convex, apically bilobed leaf that blooms in the late winter and again in the summer or fall on a slender, 12 cm long, inflorescence with 4 sheaths and a cluster 12 to 15 of filamenty white flowers resembling fireworks.
