Bulbophyllum roxburghii 'Red' is found in Assam India, Sikkim and the eastern Himalayas in tropical valleys at elevations around 300 meters as a medium sized, hot growing epiphytic species with 1.5 to 3 cm between each subglobose pseudobulb enveloped basally by fibrous sheaths and carrying a single, apical, coriaceous, linear-oblong, obtuse, obliquely emarginate, sessile to shortly petiolate base leaf and blooms in the spring through summer on an erect, basal, to 20 cm long, slender, bracteate, 5 to 12 flowered inflorescence that exceeds the height of the leaves and has an apical umbel of flowers. The foliage is a stunning deep red. Best grown in baskets or pots and given hot temperatures and partial shade, good air movement, and moderate water and fertilizer.
